Behind The Lens

Location

This is a photo of a very well-known tourist attraction in the Netherlands at a place called De Zaanse Schans where there are lots of authentic windmills of which you can also enter to look around.

Time

I took this photo a while back on the 27th October 2016 in the afternoon.

Lighting

As you can see, it was a cloudy day but with the sun coming in and out. I was a fair way off from the windmills for this picture and was standing on a bridge when I took the photo.

Equipment

I took the photo with my Nikon D810, using a 50.0mm f/1.8 lens with an aperture of f/9 at 1/250se and ISO 100

Inspiration

This picture depicts a typical Dutch landscape of yesteryear. There are a reclining number of these windmills so it's always good to capture them in their full glory.

Editing

I was lucky with this photo as I didn't have to do any major post-processing.

In my camera bag

When I go out, I like to try to think ahead of what kind of photography I will be doing. I therefore change the things I have in my bag. Always the camera of course but mostly either the 50mm lense as it is very versatile or a wide-angle lense and obviously for macro my macro lense. I make sure that I have enough batteries and cards with me.

Feedback

When going to visit somewhere, do your homework so that you have a rough idea of what you will be photographing so you will basically know which lenses to take and the settings that you will be making and if you for instance need to take your tripod with you.
