There has been a lot of paranormal activity reported at the Missouri State Penitentiary in Jefferson City MO. It has even been featured on Ghost Hunters on the SyFi channel. Prison tours are available. You can even take a seat in the old gas chamber if you are brave enough.
The prison was open in 1836 and decommissioned in 2004 and was a very dark place. The old Missouri State Penitentiary in Jefferson City MO has been closed for a few years and is partially torn down. A Federal Building is being built on part of the grounds. The prison was used from 1836 to 2004. It housed some infamous prisoners and had a population as high as 5000 inmates. Tours are available and are very interesting. Time Magazine gave the prison the name " The Bloodiest 47 Acres in America".

"A Haunted Prison?
Perhaps not surprisingly given its notorious past, the remaining prison structures on the campus of the former Missouri State Penitentiary are slowly gaining a reputation for paranormal activity. Perhaps interestingly enough, the reports of odd or supernatural activity seem to have only emerged following the building's decommissioning. The reports have varied from sightings of apparitions to disembodied laughter or the sounds of cell doors slamming when no one is around. The reports are still quite vague in context of where the sightings are occurring or noting any in particular structure or specific witnesses. However, now that the facility is now open to the general public (see below), it is quite possible that more and more reports will emerge." source:
