Behind The Lens

Location

This photo is actually a composite. The ground photo was taken during the day in Saguaro National Park and the sky was a night shot from Death Valley.

Time

Day for the cactus and night for the sky

Lighting

The best time to take pictures of the milky way is right before twilight on a moonless night or a night when the moon has long set.

Equipment

This was taken with my Canon t3i and a Rokinon 14mm lens on a tripod

Inspiration

I loved the cactus filled hill and I love stars

Editing

Yes I took the sky from a Death Valley photo and put it into the Saguaro photo

In my camera bag

Nowadays I have a Canon 6D. Usuaally I carry my Rokinon 14mm lens and My Canon 24-105mm lens. Spare batteries and SD cards. A sturdy but not expensive tripod. A pack of lens filters in case I encounter moving water and want a blur effect. A flashlight. Snacks. Hand wipes. A knife. An old phone that I use specifically with the Canon Connect app.

Feedback

Go out at night. Avoid the moon as much as you can. Get a wide angle lens. Get a decent tripod. Take a lot more pictures than you think you'll need
