Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken at the raptor center of Mountsberg Conservation Area in Campbellville Ontario Canada. The raptor center is a rehabilitation facility dedicated to raising injured birds then release into wild. You can read more about the center at their website. https://conservationhalton.ca/mountsbergraptorcentre.

Time

This image was taken around 10:00 am during a photo shoots offered by the center where photographers can get up close to get "lens to beak" opportunity.

Lighting

It was a cloudy and flurry morning so the nature offered the natural and soft ambient lighting.

Equipment

This was shot on Nikon D750 18-300mm lens no flash used and auto focus used. Shot at 1/400 sec, f/4.8 125mm, ISO 500.

Inspiration

As I was a beginner trying out on photograph birds so going to this raptor center was a great opportunity for a beginner to practice photograph birds. Some birds were placed on a station post for closeup shoots and some were instructed to fly a short distance which offered excellent opportunity for photographers to capture birds in flight.

Editing

The image was touched up for contrast, sharpness and crop in photoshop element 10.

In my camera bag

My go to camera is Nikon D750 with 28-300 lens. I feel this lens covers most aspect of range for my shooting need. I owned other cameras and lenses for different shooting requirement. i.e Landscape, macro, wildlife and travel etc. Fujifilm x-T20 is great for lightweight travel.

Feedback

If you were new or starting out to photograph birds or interested in bird watching, raptor center is a good starting point where facility staff can explain the birds behaviour and provide birding information. Also you get best shot in the control nature environment. Once you feel comfortable setting up your camera to photographing birds, then you can go out to the nature to photograph all sorts of birds in flight or station etc.
