It is hard to believe that a state with more prairies and open farmland than forest or woods would have a large verity of woodpeckers, but North Dakota does. This is a female hairy woodpecker who is drilling away at this broken tree limb for bugs. This image was taken in my yard, and one of the things I have are trees, but I also live on the river, therefore, I get plenty of wildlife to photograph without leaving home.
