Behind The Lens

Location

This image was captured in a community garden in Ulverston, Cumbria, England

Time

Afternoon 15.22hrs

Lighting

Late afternoon sun

Equipment

Canon 50D DSLR with Sigma 18-300mm f/3.5-6.3 DC Macro OS HSM Contemporary Lens Hand held, no flash

Inspiration

I just turned the corner through the garden gate and saw the Butterflies dancing around the flowers (Cosmos possibly), I always travel with my camera out & ready over my shoulder as you never know when something worthwhile will present it's self as in this case. I had to set up in a matter of seconds due to the skittish nature of the Butterflie as they were really active in the afternoon warm sun (3rd October). This was the only flower head that was perfect, facing the sun and with a butterfly in attendance. Although I lookeed for other opportunities, none were as impactful as this image!

Editing

Convert from CR2 RAW file to TIFF/JPEG using DxO software, crop to make square format

In my camera bag

Small sholder bag with just the 50D & Sigma Lens, spare batteries, spare memory cards, lens cleaning kit and rain cover

Feedback

Alway be ready with your camera out by your side, in this instance it was a matter of fast reaction and composure because the Butterflies were really active in the afternoon sun
