Behind The Lens
Location
went to Yellowstone National Park in Jan. 2017. It was on my bucket list. I took this on Jan 16, 2017.Time
It was in the morning when we saw this big bull elk crossing the Madison Creek.Lighting
The sky was overcast and there was little snow falling.Equipment
I was using my Canon 70D. My lens was a Sigma 150-600mm. My tripod. I was about 25 yards away when I took this photo. I had to take it fast because the elk was slowly eating the spouts coming in my direction. I did use a plastic bag to protect my lens and camera body.Inspiration
It was the biggest bull Elk I had seen. I wanted to show the pictures to my friends and family. They called my crazy for going to Yellowstone in middle of winter. The morning temperature was around -30 and it warmed up +10 degrees.Editing
I cropped the photo, and that was it.In my camera bag
I usually have extra batteries, memory cards, wireless shutter release and my camera's instruction book. I also take a plastic bag with me to protect my camera in case of snow, or rain.Feedback
Go to the area that you might see some big animals. I went back to Yellowstone in May 2018. I saw Elk, Grizzly Bears, Buffalo and calves, Bald Eagles, Trumpeter Swans, Coyotes, a Wolf, Ospreys and a Moose. I never have seen a Moose in the wild before this one. This was a big surprise since there are only about 100 Moose in the park. But, we were ready with long lens, and tripods.
