This photo was taken on the playing field at Jordan-Hare Stadium @ Auburn University in Auburn, AL. This was the celebration of the Auburn Tigers coming onto the field prior to the start of a big game with the University of Florida Gators.Time
It was a Nationally Televised ESPN night game. This picture was taken at approximately 7:30PM ESTLighting
I was a little concerned about the stadium lighting and effect that might have on the fireworks and the smoke being generated as the Auburn Tigers ran onto the field. They usually do the fog machines but this was an ESPN televised game so they went the extra mile. I was pleasently surprised and very pleased with how the shot turned out.Equipment
This particular picture was taken with a Nikon D200 with an AF-S 80-200mm f/2.8 lens. The tank and heavy zoom was braced on a Manfrotto Monopod. No flash was used as this was all natural light within the stadium at night.Inspiration
The blend of fireworks, smoke, players and cheerleaders created a unique opportunity. The roar from 85,000+ fams was deafening. This was the first time I had ever been allowed to be on the field so I was like a kid in a candy store. I'd been attending Auburn University football games for over 20 years and this was a dream come true.Editing
Didn't really do much more than crop it a bit to move #55 a little to the left of center. The rest was just as it was captured. In my camera bag
I have an assortment of Nikon equipment. D100, D200, D7000 and way too many lenses to list. My go to lenses are my f/2.8 lenses. When I'm using my larger zoom / telephotos they are usually attached to my Manfrotto Monopod. I shoot mostly nature, equestrian, fly fishing, action sports and landscape related pictures.Feedback
My advice is that if you want to shoot action sports events at night you have to get fast glass and make sure you take several test shots. I had taken several shots of the band performing to make sure the settings were right prior to the time the team was going to run out onto the field. I had several action shots taken during the game and most all of my favorites originated from my Nikkor AF-S 80-200mm f/2.8 zoom.
