I took this photo in Brussels, Belgium. There’s a lot of history to see and explore there. I had recently got new equipment and it was only a short drive away while I was living and working in Germany.Time
It was winter and the weather was quite cold. This makes it a great time to take photos from what I’ve learned though. Most people stay inside and it’s outside of travel season. It was about 5pm and the sun was setting fast.Lighting
The skies were clear the the sunlight was still pretty intense during the evening. I was still learning a lot at this point and it was a good chance to learn more about camera settings.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon T5 with a Canon 18-135mm lens. It was a great way to start off years ago but I’ve acquired a lot more camera bodies and lenses since. That camera body has been threw hell(literal desert deployments) and back, and still works.Inspiration
The ornate towers and memorials in the area were beautiful. Catching the sun at the right position really made it perfect.Editing
I had to lighten up the shadows but that was about it. I still was new to everything but thought it was just fine after that. I still play with the idea of editing my old captures over again though. In my camera bag
I travel the world without to much gear. My go to bag contains a Canon 80D with the L-Series 24-105mm f/4L IS II. Then I pack my Newer 176 LED light panel and TT560 speed light for late night subjects or super dark places.Feedback
Sunsets and evenings really are my favorite times for shooting. Just position yourself for whatever you want you image to convey. We could all take a picture of the same thing but your positioning and desired intent can change everything.
