Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken by me at my home In Sri Lanka. I am self taught photographer and this was one of my first photos I captured with a DSLR camera. And one of my favourite to date.

Time

It was around noon and I was testing my new camera and the things I learned about photography from internet.

Lighting

I did not have proper knowledge of handling light for photography as i was a novice and new to photography when this was taken. As i said earlier, I remember it was in the mid noon so the lighting was very bright and i went ahead with my gut feeling. Luckily the picture came out nice.

Equipment

This was taken with my very first DSLR Nikon 5300 and the kit lens (NIKON AF-P DX NIKKOR 18-55MM F3.5-5.6G VR). I used the a Tripod to hold the camera.

Inspiration

As I said, I was still very new to photography and trying out my new camera and lens. I was looking for subjects to capture and test the things i learned about on Internet. I was looking to understand depth of field and experimenting with that when I captured this. Obviously being the single red Rose on the bush made it caught my eye.

Editing

Yes I did Obviously. I used Adobe Photoshop to highlight the flower and to highlight the bright red colour. Then to turn the background to black and white so the eye will go directly the flower.

In my camera bag

I usually Have two lenses in my bag. My Kit lens (18-55mm) which i enjoy very much even today and my zooming lense (55-300mm) with my Nikon 5300 Camera and my tripod.

Feedback

My knowledge on photography was zero when I took this photo, but with the time and practice I have developed a bit but still a long way to go. So I believe it is all about continuous practice and experimenting. There is always something new to learn.
