Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken in Havana, Cuba. I treated myself to a photography tour and we attended a demonstration at a dance school. This troupe was performing for our tour as well as a few visiting dignitaries. It was such a pleasure to be able to focus on photography throughout our travels.Time
We arrived at the dance studio around 10'oclock in the morning. We began shooting about a half hour later. The sun was beginning to come through the windows.Lighting
The sun coming in through the windows caused shadows on the dancers and the floor of the studio. The natural light outlined the dancers and eliminated any need for flash photography.Equipment
This was shot with a Nikon D-90 camera with an 18-270 Tamron lens, f/4.5.Inspiration
I was interested in the movement of the dancers. I wanted to stop the action (1/100) while the troupe was in the air.Editing
I used the processing available in the photo software on Microsoft OneDrive on my computer. I decreased the light in the photo. In my camera bag
My Nikon and this lens is the combination I use most of the time. I also have a 300mm and micro lens in my bag. The 18-270 lens allows me to take quick shots which I need for wildlife as well as people. I have found that changing lenses takes time I often do not have. My "bag of tricks" is a small one.Feedback
My favorite photos are shot in black and white with low light. I find that I I am drawn to situations with natural light and shadows. I am not a fan of posed pictures or flash photography. I think this comes from the time that I had a small darkroom and was able to create pictures with darker accents. This was back in the time when I was processing my own film, too. Now I shoot color digital photos and while I enjoy the ease of photographing in different situations, I still miss shooting with film.
