Shot with a cheap point-and-shoot camera (Nikon Powershot), which was my first digital camera.Inspiration
This is a candid photo inspired by the moment. The girl and her grandmother where having a playful interaction at our neighbour table. I established eye contact which was answered by an agreeing nod as i raised my camera. I then took several images.Editing
As i had to shoot from the place we sat, there was no opportunity to take care of the background. I just concentrated on the human interaction. In post-processing i coved the dull background with a texture. A lot of processing work went into defining strong and clear contrasts ot the two people. This was done by Photoshop means. In my camera bag
Nowadays i use much better equipment, namely a Canon 5D, sometimes also the 7D, a prime 50mm lense and two zoom lenses in the wide angle range and the tele range.Feedback
This image was part of the International Istanbul Photo Contest exhibition. Most people think such is not possible without expensive equipment. I often use my image as proof to the contrary. Most important in travel portrait photography is to establish a good feeling with people, make them comfortable in front of your camera and watch them closely so to shoot at the right moment. Even with a cheap camera, lots of its technical imperfections can be redeemed in post-processing.
