Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Italy, along the "Costa dei Trabocchi", a stretch of the Adriatic coast, famous for these structures, fishing machines used since the eighteenth century. The one in the picture is the most famous, called Trabocco Turchino

Time

This photo was taken during a photography workshop, in the morning session. Upon arrival at the location we found an amazing dawn, with really explosive colors. Unforgettable.

Lighting

During the period in which the photo was taken, the Trabocco is hit by a side light, which creates beautiful contrasts between light and shadow on the entire structure and on the rocks.

Equipment

For this shot I used my Nikon D5300 with Nikon 18-140 on a Manfrotto tripod. I used a Nisi polarizer, a 0.9 GND soft filter and a 0,9 GND Hard filter mounted on a Nisi v5 holder.

Inspiration

I wanted to photograph these beautiful structures for a long time, and thanks to two great Italian professionals who organized a workshop in this location, I was able to realize this which is one of my favorite shots.

Editing

I spend a lot of time processing my photos, because I have a great passion for post-production. I often take old files to try out new postproductions or to practice newly learned techniques. In this case, however, I had to do a few interventions on Raw starting. in fact I just had to emphasize the warm colors in the sky and the cold colors in the sea, and slightly increase the contrast between the lights and the shaded areas.

In my camera bag

Normally in my backpack, I bring my Nikon D5300 and the lenses 18-140 nikon, sigma 17-50 f2,8 and samyang 14 f2.8. The Nisi filter kit, composed of various GND and ND polarizer and holde, is never missing.

Feedback

This location, thanks to the particularity of these structures, is really interesting because the Trabocchi are perfectly integrated into the landscape making it unique and recognizable. The right lighting conditions can give you very interesting shots. Also recommended a night visit to try a star trail or during the full moon nights with its own light illuminating the landscape.
