Location
Heidelberg Zoo, GermanyTime
I took the photo in the middle of a freezing December morning whilst in Germany visiting friends.Lighting
I wanted the lighting to draw you into the center of the photo and looking directly into it's fixed stare to feel the wrath of this powerful and magnificent beast.Equipment
I shot the photo using a Sony A58 with a 55-200mm.Inspiration
What inspired me to take the photo was that the magnificent bird looking powerful and a photo that could tell a thousand words.Editing
I didn't really have to edit the original RAW image too much I mainly adjusted the colour balance and contrast. In my camera bag
I normally take the standard 18-55mm just because it covers all of those wide angle shots to portraits, I also carry a 55-200mm which is great for up close shots just like this one and lastly I carry a second hand 75-300mm which is mainly for up close fast moving objects for when I go and watch motorsports.Feedback
My main advice would be don't rush a shot use all the time you need as generally this will produce better results.
