Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in Paris on the forecourt of the Eiffel Tower.

Time

It was taken in fact on 24 december 2016 at 17:16 during a walk along the Seine at Paris. It was cold and there was a lot of wind.

Lighting

Here, the Magic lighting of the Eiffel tower is made by the company Pierre Bideau and for me it's always very successfum. Whether it is the usual lighting or those at the time of commiserations (as in the attacks or at the European Football Championship in France).

Equipment

I used for this shoot my Canon 5D mark IV with the objectif Canon 16-35mn f4 as well as the befree tripood from Manfrotto

Inspiration

En fait, I had already made by day a photo of the Eiffel Tower with the same composition 3 years ago. I always liked it and besides, I often printed it in the colors as the B/W for me and the request of the friends or customers (FYI, they are visible in the website ViewBub). And I absolutely wanted to do the dame by night. The composition is't original, but ... I think it remains one of the most beautiful of the Eiffel tower !!!

Editing

Yes. I always take my photos in RAW and I decelopp them in lightroom and photoshop. Since I have the new 5D mark IV, my workflow is mich simpler than with my canon 70D. Actually, apart from the tone, a little clarity and sharpness, I just slightly cropped the picture. This was done in 5 mn on my maptop in Paris. Come home, I just slightly adjusted on my big screen the white balance. On the other hand, the photo will certainly be updated - sharpness only in fact - in the case of printing and according to the requested format.

In my camera bag

Here, because of my back pain, I had taken my small backpack ADVANCED TRAVEL BACKPACK BLACK. And inside, I had my canon 5D mark IV with the barrel 16-35 mn. I also had the Canon 24-70 min. I also had my complete set of filters (ND, polarizing, graded NB, ...) and my cleaning set (bellows, cloth, ...). And of course, I had to finish my befree tripod from Manfrotto. Usually, I have my other VANGUARD ALTA PRO 263AT tripod more cumbersome and cumbersome unhappy. Likewise, when I take my other bag, I have my 2nd case, a Canon 70D with the Sigma 17-70 mn.

Feedback

In fact, here I knew what photo I wanted (composition, light, hour - for the blue hour, ...). This situation is very rare. In the normal case, I move a lot. And if I can give advice on shooting the Eiffel Tower, it is always arrive early for the sunset where the blue hour with often very beautiful colors. And then move. In my case, I leave the Eiffel Tower and try to make circles all around (pay attention to the Seine!) In order to find different, unique points of view.
