I took this photo where I had the bride sitting on a chair by a pool during a wedding I was shooting at the Waterfall Gardens park in Heredia, Costa RicaTime
It was taken around 10am. The shoot started at 8am since the wedding was in the middle of a jungle with a waterfall as the background so we had to take advantage of the lighting. After the wedding ceremony we moved to a dryer place by a pool so the bride could rest a little and that's when I spotted the shoes as they show in the picture.Lighting
I used natural light but I had to wait for a cloud to cover the harsh light that we were getting from the sun. After the light softened because of that cloud I went down to the ground and made the shot.Equipment
I used a Nikon D610 with a Nikkor 85mm 1.8 lens, handheld but lying on the ground, so I used my elbows as tripod :)Inspiration
The bride had told me earlier during the getting-ready session that she wanted some pictures of her shoes by the dress so I knew those shoes were important and they have a nice contrast with the dress. Since we were in the middle of a jungle for the first part of the wedding, with a light rain and short of time, there was not an opportunity to take a shot of the bride showing off her shoes. Once we got to the pool and the surroundings were clearer, that's when I knew I had the chance so I did it just like it was on my mind.Editing
I did basic retouching to the picture specially an overlay to give it a vintage lookIn my camera bag
When I shoot wedding I always carry two cameras, a D610 as my main camera and a D5300 as my backup. I used a couple of Metz flashes with Neewer transmitters. I also include a Dolica tripod and a Fotodiox round reflector/diffuser. Everything goes inside a VanguardFeedback
To don't be afraid of going into uncomfortable positions to get the shot just as it is in the mind. Work with the models or couple to make them feel comfortable with the work and for them to know that if they hold for a little longer they'll get a great result
