An 8 time line honours winner of the coveted Rolex Sydney to Hobart yacht race, Wild Oats XI is an Australian favourite. Seen here under spinnaker after leaving Sydney Harbour and heading for Hobart in the 2016 race. Leading the race in race record time and into Bass Strait, unfortunately, Wild Oats was forced to retire due to gear failure.
I loved the opportunity to photograph these massive yachts (this boat is 100ft), albeit a challenge as I was also on a boat, being thrown around on turbulent seas. Difficult photographic conditions due to instability underfoot, midday sun and quite pronounced sea haze. A great experience!
