Location
This photo was taken at the Badlands National Park, South Dakota. My family and I were traveling to Mount Rushmore and decided to stop at the Badlands. Walking along the flat prairie, I was taken by surprise when suddenly I looked down to realize that these amazing sand stone formations lay before me as far as the eye could see. The canyon seems as if the prairie had simply fallen away. Thus, I named this "Unexpected Beauty."Time
This photo was taken in the early afternoon in late November of 2016.Lighting
The day was overcast and cold with snow flurries. Yet, the striations throughout the formations seemed to glimmer with light everywhere you look. The silica in the sandstone catch and reflect the light so beautifully.Equipment
This photo was shot using my cell phone camera, a Samsung Note 8, SM-N910V, Aperture 220/100?ISO 50?Shutter 1/60?Focal Length 460/100?Inspiration
I find beauty in the world around me. This expanse was so unexpected, the moment I saw the canyon it simply took my breath away and I wanted to capture the moment.Editing
No. This photo has had no editing. In my camera bag
Since I utilize my camera phone I don't carry a camera bag.Feedback
There is so much to see in the Badlands National Park. You could literally stand in one spot and take hundreds of photos all looking slightly different. Try selecting a location and shooting a series in each direction.
