Behind The Lens
Location
At my home beach of Kingscliff, on the east coast of Austrlalia in northern NSW.Time
Late afternoon. I had just bought my new Canon 80d and a few of my close friends had come over for the afternoon. We thought we’d take my camera down to the beach for a spin!Lighting
It was quite overcast that day, which helped to reduce shadows, but as it was late in the afternoon, the light began to get weaker. This was my first experience with my new camera in low light portrait photography, and I was impressed with the results!Equipment
Just my canon 80d. No flash, no tripod, just me.Inspiration
I love taking pictures of my friends, and taking them when they are looking as naturally themselves as possible. My friend was wearing little to no makeup, and we were literally jumping and cartwheeling all over the beach. Our hair was messy, we were sandy, and I just wanted to capture one of my closest friends in the moment!Editing
I just used the windows photo app to apply a black and white filter to to this photo. I was relatively impressed with the results! In my camera bag
Just my camera body, and the kit 18-135mm kit lens. I haven’t been able to afford any more lenses (there has been a number that I’ve been eying off, including a canon wide angle and portrait lens), so I’ve had to make do with the kit lens. The good thing is, I love it, the zoom range is very versatile and and I have never been unhappy with the quality of my photos.Feedback
just encourage your subject to be as natural as possible! Let their hair blow everywhere, say things that will bring a smile to their face, encourage them to just be themselves. No one is more beautiful than when they are just being themselves. Also, pay attention to where you place them in the frame (alignment to the centre make for a great effect, and don’t only include their head in the photo). And just take plenty of photos!
