Location
This was taken in Antarctica from the deck of a Russian ice cutter with gloves off for a very short time. Such a wild and desolate place! And I loved it!Time
Tsken close to noon so minimal shadows.Lighting
Just natural light, not too strong with a light overcast and great clouds.Equipment
I just used my trusty Nikon with a 500 mm lens. No tripod. Tripods are not the best thing to rely on a boat. They are not very stable and take up a lot of room at the rail that others do not love you for.Inspiration
The light, the clouds, the rocks all combined to make me gasp a bit.Editing
No post processing! Not even cropping. The scene just came out the way I wanted it.In my camera bag
I schlep my Nikon D1500, 2 or 3 lenses, lens wipes, batteries, SD cards, and, because I take animal pictures for an animal shelter, there are always squeakers, dog biscuits, more lens wipes (puppy kisses make for very blurry shots).Feedback
Find a fabulous location and take a LOT of shots. Be fairly ruthless when you decide on those pictures you love and which you can dscard.
