I don’t often see them around Brisbane Alistair. There is a great creek bank for nesting at Bald Hills. I’ve seen then there. I shit this particular one at Newcastle Waters in the Territory.

Location
I took this photo at a place called Newcastle Waters in Australia's Northern Territory. As the name implies, there is a watercourse and a series of wetlands there. We were there in the dry season so there was no flow but there was still water in the wetlands. I'd been chasing photos of a Wedge-tailed Eagle and was on my way back to our car when I chanced on a Pacific Heron and was photographing it when the Rainbow Bee-eater perched on a branch of the same tree.Time
This shot was taken in the harsh light of the middle of the day.Lighting
Being the middle of the day in the dry season in the Northern Territory, the light was very bright and harsh. Whilst this really brought out the colours of this beautiful bird, I wanted to ensure that I kept a narrow DOF as I wanted a blurred background.Equipment
I used my Nikon D7100 and 18-300 3.5-5.6 lens at 300mm.Inspiration
I love our Australian fauna, especially our birds so when an opportunity presents itself, I shoot away.Editing

I have just the one body, a Nikon D7100, a Nikon 18-300 lens, a Tamron 150-600 and a Tokina 11-16. When I took this photograph, I only had the 18-300 with me as I been hiking through the scrub.Feedback
Australia offers so many photo opportunities, not only landscapes but the fauna, especially birds (I know, I may be biased) so one really just needs to be prepared.
