Behind The Lens

Location

I was out running errands for work and took a backroad between Cochrane and Springbank outside Calgary Alberta

Time

Midmorning on a frosty foggy day

Lighting

The sun was up but the "ghost fog" created a haze which allowed me to shoot directly into the sun

Equipment

Canon EOS 6D handheld 24-105 f4 L

Inspiration

It was one of those "Ansel Adams" moments where I saw it driving by, noticed the hoar frost on the fence and the sun against the hazy mist. I pulled over as quickly as I could, ran across the road, composed, adjust my settings and started shooting a series of good ones.

Editing

After minimal cropping I did convert it to HDR

In my camera bag

I love nature so my versatile 24-105 lens is always with me. Then I have the 70-200 2.8 L non-IS. I Do want one more wider lense like a 14mm prime and then a longer lens like a 150-600mm zoom. Flash, ND filter and tripod always with me. Lens wipes are very important, I buy the wipes they sell at optometrists like Walmart, they don't scratch glass and make for streak-free cleaning.

Feedback

Pay attention and have your camera ready and know the settings. Get off auto mode, make mistakes and learn from them.
