Behind The Lens

Location

I was at a photographer/model group meet up in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam with DOL (Depth of Field) Photography Club when this red head model walked up, leaned on the car and was just listening to us talk. I slowly raised my camera and took this shot. She walked away and until this day no one can tell me her name, or anything about her. This was summer time about 2016.

Time

It was about 8 am on a Saturday morning. We discussing plans for the photo shoot concepts for the day. I think maybe 20-25 models and photographers were present.

Lighting

Just a quick candid shot. It was not planned.

Equipment

Shot with a Sony A57, Sony zoom lens. Natural light. Do not remember the settings.

Inspiration

It was one of those spur of the moment shots when I saw the opportunity and grabbed the shot.

Editing

I did some minor touch up and raised the saturation in the red hair in Paint Shop Pro.

In my camera bag

I now shoot with a Sony A7III. I have a f 1.8 50mm prime, 28 to 75 zoom and a 28 to 200 Tamron zoom. I will sometime carry a Godox AD200 and 5 in 1 reflector.

Feedback

Train yourself to see and understand light and always be aware of your surroundings. Learn how your camera works until it becomes second nature to you so you can concentrate on your subject. Most of all don't be afraid to experiment and take that shot. It could be that 'one in a million"
