Behind The Lens

Location

This image was created at the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield OH.

Time

I do not remember what time of day this image was created, but it was a cool and rainy day allowing for lots of cloud coverage and even natural lighting.

Lighting

I popped some fill from my Nikon SB-700 external flash, and also used the natural lighting coming from the three large windows the model was sitting next to.

Equipment

This image was created with a Nikon D5200, and most likely a 35mm lens.

Inspiration

The model, Lexy, and I decided on her outfits at the time of this set. I loved the way the grey in her dressed played with the blues on the wall. I also loved how her hair covered her eyes in this image, adding a sense of wonder and curiosity to her appearance.

Editing

I utilize very minimal post-processing in the majority of my work. In this image I applied a specific filter I use on the majority of my work, but nothing else.

In my camera bag

I always have two camera bodies and four lenses in my camera bag, as well as my external flash and flash accessories. If I need additional light, I use my external flash as a strobe rather than carrying around a larger lighting setup. I have always preferred to work with minimal equipment so I can move more and more quickly from location to location.
