Location
This photo was taken at the San Diego Zoo, where I could find great beauty, unique moments to capture great images and new lessons to put into practice in the future.Time
One of the biggest challenges that I experienced shooting at the Zoo was that I couldn't count with a tripod, becoming a tricky situation with the number of people that visits the zoo. If I'm not wrong this was an overcast day around noon.Lighting
What I love about overcast days is that they are perfect for portraits. This image is a perfect example, the color of the eagle can get challenging in a really sunny environment. The way the light falls on this magnificent eagle is priceless!!Equipment
I used a Sony A99 with a Carl Seiz 85 mm lens.Inspiration
While walking around the zoo it gets complicated to find a great picture with the massive amount of people that visits this place. What made me take this picture was the way I felt the eagle was looking back at me, being the only one who was "posing" for me. This was worth the patience of avoiding people crossing while I did the shot.Editing
I did image I did a subtle curve adjustment with the intention of making the eagle pop a little more.In my camera bag
In my bag, I normally carry my Sony A99 my Carl Seiz 85mm, and a 35mm lens. Depending on where I'm going I might bring with me my speed light. The tripod comes with me even if I don't plan to use it, you never know if it will be needed.Feedback
Animals are one of the most difficult subject matter to photograph. Therefore the only advise that I can give others is that we have to be gentle, sometimes we are so excited that we scare the animals away, even at the zoo we can do that. Make sure to be calm when you observe the animal that you would like to capture, make sure to make subtle movements and as silently and slowly as you can place your equipment, then wait patiently to get the shot you are looking for, it might take several hours, days or even years. But never stop trying, every failed experience is a learning experience, every achievement is an accomplished goal.
