I took this photo in the Thar desert in the Northwest of India, relatively close to the border with Pakistan. I made an excursion to the desert starting from the town of Jaisalmer, which itself too is amazingly beautiful.Time
Sunset, very clearly ;). A great number of tourists and photographers had gathered on the highest dune of the area to catch a photo of the setting sun.Lighting
I admit, I remember to have been more focused on the movements of the camels and aimed at making a photo of them, and then the sun happened to be beautifully positioned when I looked through the lens!Equipment
I shot this photo with a digital compact camera, an Olympus, which I quit using a few months after this shot. Funnily, it is the only photo in my gallery to have been taken with this simple camera, yet it is the most viewed and appreciated one!Inspiration
I was in a desert for the very first time and everything seemed captivating. The tour guides and their camels were resting at a small distance from the tourist crowd, waiting to get started again and this unattended scene drew me to it. The camels seemed so unbothered by everything going on and simply moving at their own pace.Editing
Since this was a very beginner's photo, it's in jpg format, and I did few changes to it. I mainly increased exposure and reduced the shadows, which already helped dramatically. In my camera bag
A Canon 5D Mk III which I share with a friend and my old and very reliable Canon 30D. I've come to see it's reduced sensitivity to light as a challenge and enjoy it. Then I use a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, a Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM and a Tokina AT-X 11-16mm f/2,8. And a Canon Speedlite 430EX III-RT flash which particularly the 30D likes to partner with.Feedback
Walk around relaxed. Don't look for the perfect photo to shoot but for things and situtations that attract you and that you find beautiful or otherwise interesting. I feel that's a good beginning for a good photo.
