The shot was taken during a visit to mainland Greece September 2006.Time
It was taken early in the morningLighting
At that time I was using a Nikon D70 Camera and as the available I had to use the built in flashEquipment

I have always enjoyed Natural History and its photography and especially insects. I find the variety of these creatures around the Med most interesting and would dearly love to spend more time there. This particular Mantis flew onto the balcony of the apartment where I was staying and it was very aware of its surroundings as it watched and followed people walking around the area.Editing
I darkened the background a little to make the subject stand outIn my camera bag
At the time I had just the one camera and the kit lens that came with it. The macro lens was from a film camera. I have since then moved on a little and the cameras have got more up to date. I normally carry a 20 mm wide angle a 105 mm Macro and a 300 mm Sigma.Feedback
Move in slowly and take as many pictures as you can I find a minimum aperture of at least f11 a good starting point.
