Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the Dashashwamedh Ghat of Benaras. I was there on holiday when I took this photograph.

Time

It was around 5pm in the afternoon when I captured this image. The light was falling in a 75 degree angle and I had to only the top shot. So I lied down over the stones of the ghat and took the shot.

Lighting

The vignette effect that the photograph has is real due to the peculiar lighting condition that the river Ganges had during that time. I was so taken by this lighting that during the post processing I decided to keep it as it was.

Equipment

I used a Sony Cybershot camera for taking this image. It had 5X optical zoom and I took the maximum benefit of the same. The panoramic view was later givem.

Inspiration

Benaras is the place of religion, a place of philosophy and a place where people wish to spend their last days. As I visited the place, the old lanes, its ghats, the river, boats ferrying on different locations, a strange sense of philosophical awakening engulfed me. This photograph can be the unconscious reflection of my feelings and thoughts. That might be the source of inspiration.

Editing

I do not like to post process my photos much, The raw snaps are my favorites mostly. However, for this picture, I had to post process as it was taken by a low quality camera and there were grains all over. I edited the grains and increased the color yellow of the middle boat. That was all that I did.

In my camera bag

I am a lover of low equipment when I go for rambling. A good camera, an 135 telly, a viewfinder and a 50 zoom, that is all that I prefer to carry. For me, a good picture can be shot well even in a camera with spotted lens as well.

Feedback

Capturing imaged during the late afternoon can be a real challenge if you don't have a proper quality camera with good pixel strength. That is all that you have to keep in mind, when you are capturing the objects on the water-body.
