Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken in one of my studies in Florence, within the Florence Movie Academy.

Time

Before the photo was taken with the model, exterior tests were carried out in the early afternoon to test the new lights in the outside, after which the photo was taken with the model in late afternoon.

Lighting

The lighting comes from lamps and experimental flash created from scratch plus a fresnel light and a flash of support. The position of the lights was very delicate especially because to create an error on the eyes it would have been enough to move the lights of a few millimeters, but it is useful to refine the new lamps and new flash created recently.

Equipment

That day I used an experimental light system, designed and built for a subsequent photographic service requested by a customer. This light system has been dubbed g-light, the camera used was a 5d mark II canon for its particular sensor, a fresnel light and a flash to homogenize the skin and define shadow control.

Inspiration

The need to create a new lighting system, for a particular customer's request regarding the control of eye shadows.

Editing

Normally I appreciate post production, but in this case only three corrections have been made, one in the face and two in the contrast control.

In my camera bag

In my backpack I always carry with me, my loyal 35 mm f1.4 art of sigma, my 135 f2.0 of Canon, many resin filters, an AR400 wistro. The rest of the equipment: studio flash, softbox, crane, camera, lens, changes depending on the workshop or work to be done.

Feedback

For this kind of picture it is very important to experiment with the lights first and then with the black and white radiation. Photography is just a drawing technique, it can be drawn with any material and on any surface. So with experimentation, study, creativity, play, provocation, and continuous exercise on the light and the elements on which it breaks, you can accomplish anything. The important thing is always starting from a study. Art should not be the case.
