Behind The Lens

Location

This is off the coast of Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, I was taking part in a sailing race.

Time

The evening races would start at 17:30, with different yachts having different starting times. It’s called a pursuit race, so the slower boats set off first chased by the faster ones. The race ends at at 19:00, the winner is the one in front!

Lighting

Just Mother Nature obliging me!

Equipment

Handheld on my little Panasonic dmc point and shoot,

Inspiration

I sat waiting for the yacht to bisect the setting sun. For me there is nothing so free and romantic as sailing. You lose yourself on the sea, nothing else matters, the sense of peace is wonderful.

Editing

No, this is straight from camera.

In my camera bag

Sony a6400, Sigma 30mm and Sony 18-135mm.

Feedback

I saw the setting sun and knew our course would continue in this direction for some time. The other Yacht was slightly ahead and I knew she’d pass this spot, so I sat and waited for about 10 minutes. The only anxiety was that the sun might set before we got there!
