Behind The Lens
Location
At a local mall in Baguio City, Philippines. I recently received a vintage Nikon 50mm lens for my Nikon FE2 film camera and wanted to test it out. This is one of the shots I took on that solo photowalk. The staircase is located at the Western side of the mall and there are these big windows that allow the sunslight in. I started with film before moving onto digital and learned photography through articles and videos.Time
This was around 5pm. The sun was almost setting and its afternoon light was coming through these huge windows. It was good timing that I decided to rest along the railings a bit and saw this scene of one guy sitting on the steps. I also had a few shots left on my roll of film also.Lighting
This was pure natural afternoon light. As seen in the photo, the left side is dark and the right side is illuminated as the sunlight was coming from the left side of the photo. It adds to the idea that the staircase is life and it can be endless and there are good times (light) and bad times (dark). Of course, ups and downs too, pun intended.Equipment
Nikon FE2 with 50mm f/1.8 AI and Fuji Superia Xtra 400 film.Inspiration
The city is fairly boring and it's very hard to find interesting shots. However, there are photographers I follow on social media who can take sublime photos in the least interesting places and I wanted to push myself to try and get one.Editing
None. This is film in its purest form. Well, except for whatever edits my local Fujifilm lab did to it. They use a machine to develop and scan the film. I seem to never edit the colors and tones of my film shots as the Fuji Superia film produces really good images. In my camera bag
I bring both my Nikon D5300 + 35mm and FE2 + 50mm if I can. If I need to do a variety of shots, I ditch the film setup and bring a 50mm G and 55-300mm lens for my DSLR and my tripod. I take a variety of photos whenever I'm out on a shoot. Street, landscape, portraits if I have friends with me. Recently I've been doing some panoramic stitches and I'm planning to do some astrophotography in the future or when the weather allows me to.Feedback
Timing and being aware of your surroundings. Take things slow and observe what is happening around you, especially during the time of day when the light is just perfect. Take note of things that is relevant to the vision you have for your photo. In some cases the perfect shot is but a mere moment so be ready to take the shot at a moments notice.
