Behind The Lens

Location

I've always been interested in taking nude photographs, but not the raunchy kind. The elegance of line and shadow is what informs most of my work, so I wanted to include it in this as well. This particular image was taken in my first ever "Artistic Nude" photography workshop. I was the only female in the class.

Time

It was an evening class in the winter, so it was all about lighting.

Lighting

Not really a lighting kind of gal. I shoot mostly with natural light, so it was important to me that this image reflected at least a simili of what natural light might look like as the day was ending.

Equipment

I'm a Pentax shooter, so my camera is a K3 Mark II, Manfrotto tripod, and Wizard II.

Inspiration

As I mentioned, it was a workshop, so that's why I was there.

Editing

Not much. Most of my images are straight out of camera. I only use post to maybe adjust shadows, highlights, clarity, texture, vibrance, that kind of thing.

In my camera bag

I usually carry the same two bodies - Pentax - and several lenses. A 600mm, a macro, an ultrawide 10-20mm, and an 18-300mm. Plus my tripod and all the accoutrements that go with that - laptop, external drive, etc.

Feedback

As with anything new, just get in there and figure it out. The best way to learn is by doing. You can read all the books you want, and you'll never truly learn something until you do it.
