Behind The Lens

Location

The "Ponte della Gula" is located in the Alps in Valsesia, Piedmont, Italy. At the gates of Varallo on the road of val Mastallone leading to the locality Walser Rimella.

Time

In the early afternoon.

Lighting

The time is important because there must be light also in the narrow gorge, so, despite being autumn, I waited for the sun to be as vertical as possible.

Equipment

Canon EOS300D, Canon EF 17-40mm F1:4 L USM, without flash and tripod

Inspiration

The contrast between the gray stones of the bridge and the rocks with the nuances of the autumn colors around, and finally the emerald green of the underlying water.

Editing

Only the use of the HDR function (Photoshop) to increase the contrast in the details.

In my camera bag

I currently have three "little girls" so I call the cameras: For serious jobs: Canon EOS 7D Mark II; Canon EF 70-200mm f1:4 L USM (Very fast in the focus and very sharp); Canon EF 28-70mm f1:2.8 L USM (my favorite MY 2000 (!!)); Canon EF 17-40mm F1:4 L USM; Canon Speedlite 430EX (I do not like to use the flash); Giottos tripod MH-1003 (with his bag, compact and light); Lowepro Computrekker AW; Lowepro EX180 (very compact but very strong). For backup: a body Canon EOS 40D and Canon EOS 300D Digital with standard lens 18-55.

Feedback

Shoot with -1/3 or even - 2/3 to allow the Photoshop HDR function to "open" more details.
