Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken near the Bendigo train station in Victoria, Australia. The structure is an old signal box, used to switch the tracks before it went electronic.

Time

my favourite time of the day to shoot, sunset. I usually scout my locations first, but just happened to stumble across this one.

Lighting

I like using an fstop of around 14 to get the sun rays really coming out.

Equipment

Nikon d7200, sigma 10-20mm f3.5, on a tripd.

Inspiration

My dad is a fitter and turner, and he used to work in signal boxes including this one. Trains and railways have a special meaning for me.

Editing

No a lot on this one, adjusting the highlights and shadows, whites, blacks and adjusted the blues a tad.

In my camera bag

Now a Nikon D810, Tamron 15-30mm f2.8, tamron 70-200mm f2.8m, Nikor 50m prime f1.8,

Feedback

Like i said, i like to shoot at sunset, and i usually try to visit the location before i shoot to assess the angle as best i can without having to be worried about hurrying. Being digital, i like to experiment with exposures and post processing to see what i can come up with.
