Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at Cool Springs Station on Historic Route 66 between Kingsman, AZ and Oatman, AZ.

Time

The time of day wasn't ideal, sometime late morning, on Sept. 22, 2016. That's the way travel photography is though. There is always something to see and photograph throughout the whole day.

Lighting

It was partly sunny with wonderful blue sky that was crowded with large, beautiful clouds. The lighting was a bit on the harsh side because of the time of day but it made the contrast of the patina mixing with the worn out paint of the old truck really pop.

Equipment

We were on a motorcycle trip from the beginning to the end of Route 66 so I had to travel, and pack very light. There isn't a lot of room on a motorcycle when packing for a 3 week journey. So, most all of my equipment stayed at home. This image was taken with a Canon G16. The only other camera equipment I had was my GoPro.

Inspiration

I was inspired by the nostalgia of the scene. It was just one of many along the historic roadway.

Editing

A black and white Lightroom filter was used to bring the feeling of the long life the truck has endured.

In my camera bag

My camera bag usually has a Canon 7D Mark II, Canon EF-24-105mm f/4, EF-16-35mm f/2.8 and EF 70-200mm f/2.8, Canon G16 and sometimes the GoPro Hero 4 depending on what I'm doing. I also have a Canon 1D Mark II as a backup.

Feedback

Advice? Always keep you eye open. Look for different angles. Never leave home without some kind of camera.
