Location
I took this photo off the Na Pali Coast on Kauai, Hawaii.Time
This was taken mid afternoon.Lighting
It's all natural light. The harsh sun shown through the thinner parts of the waves really showing off its teal colors.Equipment
It was shot with a Nikon d40x with a Nikkor 18-135mm 1.3.5-5.6G ED lensInspiration
I was hiking along a beach and I noticed that these waves were crashing up against the cliff and surging back colliding with the waves coming in. This caused the water to shoot straight up into the air when these two surges collided creating these interesting shapes.Editing
A little bit of contrast and saturation. In my camera bag
I have my Nikon D40x with the 18-135mm zoom lens. As well as a 70 to 200 zoom lens.Feedback
Shots like these requires good timing and positioning. So you have to read and anticipate the right moment. To achieve this really observe the surrounding environment. Kind of look for the 'domino effect' then calculate where the action is going to happen. When it is about to occur take at least a couple of shots just before the moment then when you hit it do a couple of shots after. You want to have a string of shots just to increase the odds of shooting that moment.
