Location
I went to Abu Dhabi to do a work assignment and one Thursday after work went to visit the magnificent Sheikh Zayed Mosque.Time
I remember feeling quite inconspicuous in the hoards of people who had the same idea and because I had to cover my head. It was already well after dusk and as I was leaving I looked back and saw the gorgeous golden arches and their reflection on the water. I grabbed the shot, hand-held and was delighted with the result.Lighting
The warm tones inside the mosque reflect all the body heat from the hundreds of people walking through there and then coming out into the cold evening desert air is reflected in the cooler tones of the water, that's what I liked about it.Equipment
Canon 5DMkiii and the 24-105mm lens.Inspiration
I was looking to get a wide shot to display the grandeur of the whole mosque but it was simply too busy so went away feeling a little disheartened. This image made up for it though.Editing
I tweaked the levels in Camera Raw.In my camera bag
When I took this image, it was always the 24-105mm that I had with me. Nowadays I'm favouring my Sigma Art 35mm and therefore use my feet to get the image I want.Feedback
This landmark makes for fantastic photography opportunities. Look for images out of the ordinary rather than the standard straight on shot. It's a huge place so spend time walking around looking for that which attracts you and wait until the crowds dissipate somewhat to get your images.
