This spot always produces great drama when the tide lines up with the sunrise.
I don't have a 3-stop hard gradient filter so I had to combine two shots. The first exposed for the rising sun and the second for the rushing water.
When I shoot the water, i usually set my a7ii into b&w mode (even though I'm shooting raw) - just so I can get a good feel for the movement of the water. Usually I'll shoot just a little under exposed because I can always recover the details in the shadows in post.
Finally, if I'm lucky, I'll catch the exact moment when the light from the sunrise is able to "kiss" the surface of the water before it rises completely - lighting up all the water.
Gear: Sony a7ii, Sony 28mm f2, Nisi Cir. Polarizer, 3 stop ND
Location: Lanai Lookout, Oahu, Hawaii
