Historic G. A. Dentzal Carousel

The historic G.A. Dentzal Carousel is over 100 yrs. old and is one of only two known left. It has been in Logansport, IN since the late 1940's It actually sat unused in an unheated building for a few years and deteriorated. The Historical and Arts Counsels of Logansport worked hard to bring it back to it's former glory, along with building a new temperature controlled environment. All the animals were stripped down to their original wood, sanded smooth again, (and carefully filled in with fitted wood where needed,) then carefully painted to the original colors. The really fun thing that you can not see in this picture, is that there is an arm that swings out, where those on the outside animals can try to catch rings. If you catch the "gold" ring (it's really a brass one,) you get a ticket for a free ride! No!, you do not get to keep the "gold" ring. LOL It is open to the public on week ends, festivals, and available for private parties.
