Location
I am British amatuer photographer. In October 2014 I did a guided tour of US National Parks in the West. It was a wonderful experience of seeing and photographing some of the world's best landscapes, such as : Arches, Mesa Verde, Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon National Parks.Time
Took this image deliberately on the very late afternoon of 19/10/14. This was because I wanted to create a dusk scene of the canyon.Lighting
The lighting was quite subdued which meant I had to be careful about my camera settings: ISO, exposure and lens.Equipment
I use a Nikkon D600 camera but do not use a tripod abroad. The lens I used was a Nikkor 70-330mm.Inspiration
I wanted to get an attractive sunset shot in the canyon, but there was a problem. We had to leave the canyon in the late afteroon, in order to get back to our hotel for our evening dinner. I, therefore, waited until the last possible moment to take a late afternoon photo.Editing
When I arrived back home, in the United Kingdom, I edited the image first in RAW and then in Photoshop using levels and curves. In my camera bag
I normally pack my camera bag with : Nikon D600 camera, Nikkor wide angle lens 16-35 mm, Nikkor 50mm lens, Nikkor 70-330 mm lens, lens hood, dessicants, notepad and pen.Feedback
Do not be in a hurry to photograph your location the moment you arrive. Explore your surroundings and then start to discover suitable locations from which to take good photographs. When trying to get a photograph similar to mine patience and skill are required during the editing process. If you do not, at the moment edit in Raw and Photoshop, get them and learn them! They will improve your photography dramatically!!
