Location
I took this photo in my back yard. I had observed this Song Sparrow hanging around for several days so I decided to see If I could capture it in a unique way. I set up in a location were the subject had been seen several times and positioned myself so the back ground was bokeh with soft pastel colors.Time
This was taken at 1025 in the morning. It had just stopped raining and the sun was trying to poke through the overcast sky. I positioned myself at a table and chair near it's favorite perch and waited for it to appear! It began to sing and I thought it must be enjoying the clearing sky as much as I.Lighting
The lighting for this photo was natural as it was overcast but with a thin layer of cloud allowing a beautiful soft aura around the subject!Equipment
I used a Nikon D7000 with a 300mm F4E PF ED. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
As an avid Birder and Nature enthusiast I am taken by the beauty of nature. Being that this little bird was in my own back yard I was inspired to capture it in a natural but unique pose. As it puffed up it's wet feather's and began to sing I new this was a keeper!Editing
No processing was done with this photo. In my camera bag
I always have My 300mm f4 and my 50mm 1.8. I also carry a 1.4x tele converter. These 3 items give me versatility in field whether the subject is far or near, moving or still.Feedback
Being in the maritime provinces the weather can change every 5 minutes. As a nature photographer you have to be prepared for all conditions so clothing and equipment protection is a must. Mornings and evenings are the best time of day and patience is very important as in most things you have to go after it, don't expect it to come to you!
