Location
I was taking a walk in Lancaster County, PA on farm land.Time
I had just completed my last day of school for the year, the time was around 1:00 PM.Lighting
I wanted the image to have bright colors, evenly lit, and use all natural light. The day was overcast which allowed me to get an even distibution of light across the thistles.Equipment
A trusy Nikon D40 paired with a Nikon 55-300 f 4-5.6 lens was used, hand held.Inspiration
The pure composition of the thistles struck me as a moment to take a picture. From the height of smallest to tallest, to the middle thistle being full and the outer two empty.Editing
Contrast, vibrance, and saturation have been altered to make the colors pop. To bring out more definition in the individual petals, post sharpening had been applied. In my camera bag
Typically, I carry one camera body, a Nikon D7000 currently. The Nikon 35 1.8 G and the Nikon 80-200 2.8 are my favorite go-to lenses that are always with me and used. Aside from that, I make sure I have plenty of spare memory cards and batteries. A picture cannot be taken without a means of storing it or having the power to take it!Feedback
Go out and explore. Especially when dealing with nature, you never know what you will find. It is dependent on the weather, time of day, location, and many other factors. That is what I enjoy about nature photography, one never knows what he or she will find when going out for a shoot. Plan a trip or just walk outside your house, there is something different to observe constantly.
