Location
This was taken at Lower Bond falls in southern Ontonagon County, Michigan when I was exploring the area during Fall Leaf Peeping road trip with my family.Time
I was at Lower Bond falls at around noon. I tried to few wide angle shots but was not happy with the results. Thought of using telephoto lens along with ND filter and tripod to get long exposure effect.Lighting
It was during fall season and during afternoon time, the light wasn't really ideal ( partially cloudy) for a long exposure shot but ND filter and tripod came in handy to create the soft misty effect.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon 7D with 70-200 mm lens mounted on a tripod with ND filter for slow shutter speed.Inspiration
Waterfalls have always inspired me and fall season is my favorite season for taking photographs. I was looking to capture a photo which can capture the essence of "Fall" and this frame where I can see Fall leaves and Waterfall in the same frame was ideal from my point of view. The wide angle shots which are the first choice for landscapes didn't do justice to the theme I wanted to capture and had to go with a telephoto lens which helped me capture my imagination.Editing
I am not very big fan of post-processing when it comes to Landscape photos. For this one, I did minor corrections in photoshop and lightroom for color and contrast. In my camera bag
I am an amateur photographer with interest in nature and portrait photography. For capturing landscapes, I keep wide angle lens, Canon 11-16 mm in my bag. When it comes to portraits, my first choice is Canon 70-200 mm. I do keep 50 mm prime lens but use it rarely. Along with these lenses, I have the kit lens which came along with Canon 6D. For long exposure shots during day time, I keep ND filters handy. Canon speedlite flash for portraits along with batteries, memory cards and chargers.Feedback
The basic rule of thumb for Landscape photography is to maximize the depth of field and use wide angle lenses with high f values but in this particular case I went completely against it as wide angle lens was not helping in capturing my imagination. So, the advice here is rule of thumbs are good as a guideline but don't be afraid to think out of box and try things which helps capturing your imagination.
