In a little known estate about three hours from Glasgow! I took this photo whilst on holiday at a place that would later become my home. I now live 80 meters from this view, the west coast of Scotland looking out over the Sound of Jura towards the Hebrides, Jura and ScarbaTime
An evening walk in the summertime, probably about 10pm. Over the summer solstice, it never even gets dark this far north so August is a better time for getting a true sunsetLighting
I took this shot on a whim, not really planning for anything good to come out of it - I went with the lighting I had, took a few photos and continued my walkEquipment
This was taken on my older camera alone, a FUJIFILM FinePix S8600, a bridge camera Nothing else as I'd only taken it with me out of habitInspiration
Being so perfectly faced west I enjoyed taking a walk every night to enjoy the sunset down by the water. Every night I took my camera and in the three years since I took this photo, and the two I've lived here, I've never managed to get such a shot as this one of pure luckEditing
Only a little! The colours were a little washed out when I viewed it on a screen and didn't hold the fieryness I'd seen, so I upped their intensityIn my camera bag
My standard kit nowadays would be the Nikon D3400 with the 18-55mm lense Also carrying a macro 85mm lense but it rarely shows it's head with meFeedback
Absolutely patience. The weather on the west coast is wild even in the summer. You have to accept that sometimes it's too cloudy or not cloudy enough for the perfect sunset but the scenery is usually stunning enough anyway to make up for it. The prime time for shots like this is about 40-20 minutes before true sunset, the sun dips below Scarba and you get the colour without the sun overexposing your shot, much later and you start to lose detail in the darkness
