Location
I took this photo at Vale de Cambra, a city near my area. It is a pacific and industrialized portuguese city with the presence of some countryside marks too.Time
Usually for me the best light is during sunset or sunrise, but this photo was taken during the golden hour, moments before the sunset happened.Lighting
The shapes of the clouds, and the position on the sun were what really caught my eye, and the way that they lead the light and painted the colors over the landscape were fulcral to me!Equipment
I have used a canon 50D with my trusty Tokina 11-16 f2.8 For this particular photo i didn't need tripod, in fact, it would have limited me in the process of composing, because of the topography of the terrain.Inspiration
The shapes of the clouds were what really drove me to capture a photo. The need to have a photo with those clouds in my collection was a must, because they are pretty rare in Portugal. Then the little hill with the city was a complement to the composition.Editing
This photo required a lot of adjustments in terms of color and light, contrast and detail, not because of being uninteresting, but because i want it to be perfect! The adjustments were local, and i have used some brushes. I made some adjustments in the WB, to make the colors match the idea of fire that i wanted to pass. After that, i reduced the overall noise of the photo and a bit of sharpness in Photoshop. In my camera bag
Usually i tend to have all the stuff with me. A canon 50D (nowdays a 7D), my tokina 11-16, a sigma 17-50 2.8, a canon 70-210 f4, a canon 100mm macro, and a cpl, nd and a 100mm graduated ND, with a cokin tipe filter holder. Two flashes, triggers, batteries and a cable remote makes its presence too in my bag.Feedback
In my point of view, what made the photo was the clouds, so my biggest advice is to have your eyes in the sky "most of the time", and when it seems to be on its way to become a great sky, grab your camera and make your way to a spot that will complement your shot. Check some weather apps too, specially the ones that show you the satellite view so you can predict the movement of the clouds, and plan the shot! And one more thing: if you see some spots that catch your eye, write them in a book, or on your cell phone, so when you have a great sky, you will know where to go shoot!
