River Crossing, the Tongariro River, is a refreshing experience and not to be taken lightly. River fatalities earned the nickname the ‘New Zealand Death’, and in the first decades of European settlement, in 1870, 1,115 people deaths had been recorded by drowning in rivers. There are many facets to making a decision to cross a river. It is best to get professional training to understand these skills. Enjoy being out in New Zealand's beautiful bush, however never take it for granted. We run excellent world class training at Institute of Sport & Adventure, Otago Polytechnic. Come and learn from us.
