Location
This photo was taken in the spare room of the model's house, it had a big window giving some available light for us to manipulate to create a light airy image.Time
This image was taken late afternoon in August. The light in the room was darker than I expected it to be, we had moved her further into the room by the wall to create a different set of images. However by taking full advantage of the available light from the window & shifting the ISO higher it created a lovely airy bright image.Lighting
This was completely natural lighting from a large window within the room we were using. I wanted to keep it this way so that it ensured a flattering light on the subject. Due to the nature of the light within the room I had to compensate slightly by increasing the ISO to 6400 but that was preferable to me than using a flash as I didn't want any harsh shadows or contrasts on her face or body.Equipment
This was shot handheld on a Canon 60D at 6400 with a 18-135mm lens.Inspiration
I was taking a series of images with this model & she wanted natural airy images that were subtly sexy to give to her boyfriend (now husband) as a birthday present. She had amazing hair which just looked like it needed to be played with. By having her in the shirt & bra it meant that she could create a beautiful image whilst keeping it simply sexy having the light softly hitting her without it being too extrovert. I just loved the combination of the plain shirt & the pretty longline bra.Editing
For this type of image I try to do minimal post processing to make it as natural as possible. However, I did convert it to black/white with photoshop & then increased the contrast - adjusting the levels a little to create some more impact. In my camera bag
The equipment that I absolutely have to have in my bag are: Canon 60D with a 18-135mm lens, I have recently purchased a Canon 5D Mark II so now have both of these with lots of spare batteries depending on what I'm shooting. I primarily shoot in natural light, so I also have a reflector to hand to assist in low light conditions which regularly occur during indoor hotel shoots.Feedback
Ensure you know where the light will be coming from & when, i.e whether it will be direct light through the window or just ambient light which is very much dependant on the time of day! As well as this, ensure that the model is relaxed - a good tip is to get them to concentrate on something else other than you - whether its playing with their hair or moving their clothes, by doing this their expression will be more natural & relaxed. Also always have a reflector handy - this will help with any unwanted shadows that could be created on their face.
