Say hello to Baikal and Katja, Amur Tigers at the Calgary Zoo.Time
Late morning, the pair were getting a little frisky, vying for attention from the zookeeper. It was time for some training exercises and the wined got to eat some horse meat.Lighting
Lighting was typical for mid-day.Equipment
Shot with a Canon 80D and a 100-400L lensInspiration
I love taking pictures of animals. The zoo is sometimes difficult to catch natural behaviour or backgrounds that look natural. I was lucky to capture some emotion in this picture.Editing
This picture is actually through glass with waterspots all over the place. I loved the tiger's expressions so much I learned how to use Photoshop just to spot remove the water marks. It took over an hour to get them all! I then punched up the colour a bit and brightened their faces to highlight their expression. In my camera bag
I am still trying to figure out my normal kit. I start with my Canon 80D, then I lean towards my 100-400L and 100L macro. That way I can take wildlife picture from near and far.Feedback
Zoos are great for animal pictures. The subjects are usually close enough to get nice compositions. Great location to practise skills for when shooting in the wild.
