I took this photo at the Calgary Zoo when I was 15. My parents and siblings and I were visiting family in Calgary, and we took a day trip to the zoo.Time
It was early afternoon in mid August, after a nice, healthy lunch of hot dogs and cotton candy.Lighting
I honestly put no thought into the lighting at the time, but it ended up looking really cool. It was hot that August in Calgary, high thirties if I remember correctly, and the sun was shining bright. I love the way it looks with the sun coming through the leaves on the trees.Equipment
Believe it or not, this was taken with a little $50 digital camera, one of the ones you give to your accident prone kids so it doesn't really matter if they drop it into the penguin exhibit (aka what happened with my little sister's camera on this trip). So honestly I'm ridiculously surprised this picture turned out as good as it did.Inspiration
We'd been at the zoo for a while at the point this photo was taken, and we were waiting in line to meet the baby tiger cubs. This was one of about thirty pictures that I snapped of this tiger as we waited in line, and was the best of the bunch.Editing
I didn't do any post-processing of this photo! In my camera bag
I have my Nikon COOLPIX L340 camera, and that's about the extent of my equipment. If I'm planning a shoot, I might bring props or something, but I'm usually pretty laid back with my shoots.Feedback
I really don't have much advice, as you can probably tell from my lack of planning on this specific shot. I guess my advice would be to take multiple shots and chances are you'll get at least one that's good! Just get out there and take as many pictures as you can. You'll only get better :)
