Extremophile anaerobic bacteria thrive in the waters that run from the Rio Tinto mine in Huelva Province, Andalucía. They feed and thrive on iron and sulfide minerals on which the bacteria feed. NASA astrobiologists and scientists are comparing the chemistry of the water to paleoconditions for Mars and maybe present ones for Europa, one of Jupiter’s moons. The photo has not been touched up in any way.
